Spicy Blackened Shrimp (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredient

01 - 1 pound of extra-large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails left on

→ Spice Blend

02 - ⅓ cup olive oil
03 - ½ tablespoon chili powder
04 - 1 tablespoon paprika
05 - 1 tablespoon garlic powder
06 - 1 tablespoon brown sugar
07 - 1 teaspoon salt
08 - 2 teaspoons black pepper
09 - 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper (leave out if you prefer it mild)

# Instructions:

01 - Give your shrimp a quick rinse under cold water, then gently pat them completely dry using paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick better.
02 - In a mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper until everything is well blended.
03 - Put on some disposable gloves to keep your hands clean, then toss the dried shrimp into the spice mixture. Use your hands to massage the seasoning onto each piece until they're evenly coated.
04 - Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high. Let it get nice and hot before adding the shrimp.
05 - Add the seasoned shrimp to your hot skillet in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd them. Cook for about 3 minutes on each side until they're beautifully charred and cooked through. Work in batches if needed.

# Notes:

01 - Look for fresh grilling shrimp at your grocery store's seafood counter. If you're using frozen shrimp, just make sure they're raw (not pre-cooked) and let them thaw completely before you start cooking.
02 - The cayenne pepper brings some heat to this dish, but it's totally optional. If you're sensitive to spice, feel free to skip it or just add a tiny pinch for flavor without the burn.
