Easy German Meatballs for Dinner (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base ingredients

01 - Fresh stale bread, roughly chopped into small pieces (1½ cups)
02 - Milk or water to soak the bread (½ cup)
03 - A knob of butter (or dairy-free alternative) (1 tablespoon)

→ Meat mixture

04 - Ground beef (½ pound)
05 - Ground pork - or more beef if you prefer (½ pound)
06 - Yellow onion, finely diced (1 medium)
07 - Fresh garlic, minced (1 clove)
08 - Fresh parsley, chopped (⅓ cup)
09 - Large egg (1)

→ Seasonings

10 - Dijon mustard (1 teaspoon)
11 - Sea salt (1 teaspoon)
12 - Freshly ground black pepper (½ teaspoon)
13 - Sweet paprika powder (½ - 1 teaspoon)
14 - Dried marjoram - optional but recommended! (½ teaspoon)
15 - Vegetable or avocado oil for cooking (2 tablespoons)

# Instructions:

01 - Start by soaking your chopped bread in milk for about 5-10 minutes until it's nice and soft.
02 - While the bread is soaking, melt some butter in a pan over medium heat. Add your diced onion and minced garlic, cooking them until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
03 - Drain the soaked bread really well using a fine strainer or nut milk bag - you want to get rid of excess moisture. Now comes the fun part! In a large mixing bowl, combine your drained bread with all other ingredients (except the cooking oil). Get your hands in there and knead everything together until well combined.
04 - Shape the mixture into evenly-sized balls, then gently press them down with your palms to form nice, round patties.
05 - Heat up your vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add your patties and cook them for about 7-8 minutes on each side (15 minutes total) until they're beautifully browned and cooked through. Keep an eye on the heat - you want them golden brown, not burned!

# Notes:

01 - These traditional German meat patties are wonderfully tender and packed with flavor. They're perfect for a cozy family dinner!
02 - Frikadellen taste amazing when served with German potato salad or any pasta salad on the side.
