Red Velvet Popcorn (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 box red velvet cake mix, prepared following box instructions
02 - 1½ cups white chocolate chips
03 - 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening
04 - 12 cups freshly popped popcorn (from about ⅓ cup kernels)

# Instructions:

01 - Bake your red velvet cake following the package directions, then allow it to cool completely. Once cooled, break apart roughly one-third of the cake into bite-sized crumbs - you'll want about 4 cups total of these delicious crumbs.
02 - Combine white chocolate chips and vegetable shortening in a medium mixing bowl. Heat in microwave using 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until the mixture becomes smooth and completely melted. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler method if you prefer.
03 - Prepare a baking sheet with wax paper and spread your freshly popped popcorn evenly across it. Pour the warm melted chocolate over the popcorn and gently toss everything together until each kernel gets a nice coating.
04 - While the chocolate is still soft, scatter the red velvet cake crumbs generously over the chocolate-coated popcorn. Toss gently to ensure every piece gets covered with those beautiful red cake bits.
05 - Allow the chocolate to firm up completely before serving. Once set, your sweet and crunchy treat is ready to enjoy!

# Notes:

01 - For easier coating, you can also mix the popcorn with melted chocolate in a large bowl first, then spread it on the wax paper before adding cake crumbs.
02 - You'll only need about one-third of the baked cake for this recipe, so save the rest for another dessert or snacking.
