Quick Italian Sausage Skillet Dinner (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1 pound Italian sausage links, whole or sliced as preferred
02 - 3 medium bell peppers of different colors, sliced
03 - 1 large onion, sliced
04 - 3 cloves garlic, minced

→ Seasonings & Oil

05 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
06 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
07 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
08 - Salt and pepper to taste

→ For Serving

09 - 4 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise

# Instructions:

01 - Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the sausages and cook until beautifully browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove them from the pan and slice into bite-sized pieces if desired, or keep them whole for a more traditional presentation.
02 - In the same flavorful skillet, add the remaining olive oil along with your colorful peppers and onions. Let them cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and release their natural sweetness.
03 - Toss in the fragrant minced garlic, dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Give everything a good stir and let it cook for another minute until the kitchen fills with wonderful aromas.
04 - Return the sausages to the skillet, nestling them among the peppers and onions. Cook for 10 more minutes, stirring now and then, until the sausages are completely cooked through and the vegetables are tender and caramelized.
05 - For extra texture, lightly toast your hoagie rolls. Layer your favorite sauce if using, then pile on the hot sausages, peppers, and onions for a satisfying sandwich.

# Notes:

01 - For a lighter version, try using chicken or turkey sausages instead of traditional pork
02 - Choose sweet Italian sausages for a milder meal, or spicy ones for extra heat
03 - Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days
04 - Serve with crusty bread or over pasta to soak up all the delicious pan juices
