BBQ Chicken Sweet Potato Burgers (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Burger Ingredients

01 - 1 pound lean ground chicken (93% lean works best - avoid the super lean 99% stuff)
02 - 1 cup freshly grated sweet potato (you'll need about one small sweet potato)
03 - 2 tablespoons your favorite low-sugar BBQ sauce
04 - ¼ cup finely chopped yellow onion
05 - 2 fresh garlic cloves, minced up nice and fine
06 - ½ teaspoon ground cumin
07 - ½ teaspoon salt
08 - Fresh black pepper to taste
09 - 4 slices of good sharp cheddar cheese

→ For Serving

10 - 4 hamburger buns (toast them if you like that extra crunch)
11 - 4 tablespoons low-sugar BBQ sauce for drizzling
12 - Fresh butterhead lettuce leaves
13 - Thinly sliced red onion

# Instructions:

01 - Grab a large mixing bowl and toss in your ground chicken, grated sweet potato, BBQ sauce, diced onion, minced garlic, cumin, salt, and a good grind of black pepper. Get your hands in there and mix everything together until it's nicely combined - don't overwork it though. Shape the mixture into 4 equal patties, making them about half an inch thick.
02 - Fire up your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F is perfect). Cook the patties for 5-8 minutes on each side until they're completely cooked through and your meat thermometer hits 165°F. In the last couple minutes of cooking, place a slice of sharp cheddar on top of each patty and cover the grill for about a minute to let that cheese get all melty and delicious.
03 - Place your cheesy chicken patties on the buns and load them up with fresh lettuce, sliced red onion, and a generous drizzle of that tangy BBQ sauce. Serve these beauties right away while they're hot and juicy. They're absolutely fantastic with some crispy sweet potato fries or fresh seasonal fruit on the side!

# Notes:

01 - These burgers are incredible for summer grilling and so much healthier than traditional beef burgers while still being incredibly satisfying.
02 - The shredded sweet potato is the secret to keeping these chicken burgers super juicy and adds a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with the BBQ sauce.
03 - You can freeze the uncooked patties for later - just wrap them individually and they'll keep for up to 3 months.
04 - Without the bun, each burger has only 293 calories, making this a great lighter option when you want to skip the carbs.
