Halloween Whoopie Pies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Cake Base

01 - 1 box (15.25 oz) devil's food cake mix
02 - 3/4 cup water
03 - 1/2 cup vegetable oil
04 - 3 large eggs
05 - 1 box (4-serving size) instant chocolate fudge pudding mix

→ Decorating Supplies

06 - 2 containers (16 oz each) vanilla buttercream frosting
07 - Orange gel food coloring
08 - Edible black glitter or sprinkles
09 - Powdered sugar for dusting
10 - Black licorice laces (for spider legs)
11 - Candy eyeballs

# Instructions:

01 - Heat your oven to 350°F and line your baking sheets with silicone mats or parchment paper.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, eggs, and pudding mix. Beat everything together on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
03 - Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop evenly-sized portions of batter onto your prepared baking sheets, forming round shapes. Make 36 smaller circles for bite-sized treats or 18 larger ones for standard whoopie pies.
04 - Bake for 7-10 minutes, depending on size. The cakes should spring back lightly when touched and look set around the edges.
05 - Let the cakes cool entirely on the baking sheets before handling - this prevents them from breaking apart during assembly.
06 - Blend the vanilla frosting with orange food coloring gel, adding a little at a time until you achieve your desired Halloween orange shade.
07 - Spread or pipe the orange frosting generously onto the flat side of half your cakes, then gently sandwich with the remaining cakes.
08 - Sprinkle black glitter or create stenciled designs with powdered sugar. For spider versions, insert licorice legs and add candy eyes with a dab of extra frosting.

# Notes:

01 - Recipe yields either 18 smaller whoopie pies or 9 larger ones, depending on your preferred size
02 - For stenciled designs, use small Halloween-themed stencils and dust with powdered sugar through a fine sifter
03 - To make spider whoopie pies, insert 8 pieces of black licorice as legs before adding the top cake, then attach candy eyes with frosting
04 - Consider using black-colored frosting instead of orange for a more dramatic spider effect
