Easy No Bake Treats (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Cookie Base

01 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
02 - 1/4 cup light corn syrup
03 - 1/2 cup granulated sugar
04 - 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
05 - 1/2 teaspoon table salt
06 - 1/2 cup chocolate spread (you can use regular or nut-free)
07 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
08 - 1 3/4 cups rice krispie cereal

→ Decorations

09 - 1/4 cup chocolate melting wafers
10 - 20 miniature Oreo cookies
11 - 20 edible candy eyes
12 - 10 mini candy corn pieces
13 - 20 orange chocolate covered sunflower seeds

# Instructions:

01 - Add butter, corn syrup, sugar, dark cocoa powder, and salt to a large pot. Warm everything over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it melts together into a smooth, creamy mixture.
02 - Turn up the heat to high and watch carefully. The second you see bubbles forming around the edges of your pot, take it off the heat right away.
03 - Mix in the chocolate spread, stirring until everything melts together beautifully. Then add the vanilla and give it another good stir.
04 - Pour in the rice krispie cereal and fold gently until every piece is coated with that delicious chocolate mixture.
05 - Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions and drop them onto parchment paper to make 10 mounds. Use the back of your spoon to flatten and shape each one into a round owl body. Set aside to cool down completely.
06 - Put the chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Give it a stir until smooth and melted. If needed, pop it back in the microwave for another round.
07 - Turn each cookie upside down and spread a bit of melted chocolate on the back. Press a paper straw into the chocolate and wait for it to set before flipping them back over.
08 - Carefully split open each miniature Oreo using a butter knife. Spread a little melted chocolate on the back of the sides with frosting. Place 2 Oreo halves on each owl where the eyes belong.
09 - Dip a toothpick in melted chocolate and dab a tiny bit on the back of each candy eye, then press them onto the cream part of the Oreo cookies. Do the same with the candy corn for the beak and sunflower seeds for the feet. Let everything set up before you move the cookies around.

# Notes:

01 - Setting up all your decorating supplies beforehand makes the whole process much smoother and more enjoyable.
02 - Give the cookies time to firm up completely before decorating - they'll be easier to work with and the toppings will stick better.
03 - When splitting Oreos, use a butter knife and work gently so all the frosting stays on one side.
04 - A toothpick, small pastry brush, or piping bag makes attaching decorations with chocolate much easier and neater.
05 - Not feeling the owl theme? Simply drizzle white and orange chocolate over the tops and add some festive fall sprinkles instead.
06 - Feel free to swap the chocolate spread for Nutella, peanut butter, or any nut-free spread you prefer.
07 - You can use honey or maple syrup instead of corn syrup if that's what you have on hand.
08 - Mini orange M&M's work great for little owl toes if you can't find the sunflower seeds.
09 - Brown M&M's or chocolate chips make excellent alternative eyeballs.
10 - A whole almond is a fun substitute for the candy corn beak.
11 - Try chocolate or almond extract in place of vanilla for a different flavor twist.
