Easy Homemade Breadsticks (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dough

01 - 1½ cups warm tap water (up to 130°F/55°C, not boiling or super hot)
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 teaspoons instant or rapid rise dry yeast
04 - 4½ cups bread flour
05 - 2 teaspoons salt
06 - 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

→ Topping

07 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
08 - ¼ teaspoon salt
09 - ½ teaspoon garlic granules

# Instructions:

01 - Combine warm water with sugar and yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until the mixture becomes bubbly and the yeast activates.
02 - Mix the flour with melted butter, salt, and the activated yeast mixture in a large bowl. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 7 minutes until you get a smooth ball of dough.
03 - Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each piece into a rope shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
04 - Cover the shaped breadsticks with a kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for 1 hour. On very hot days, they might rise faster (about 30 minutes), so keep an eye on them.
05 - Preheat your oven to 390°F (200°C) towards the end of the rising time. Bake the breadsticks for 15 minutes until golden.
06 - While the breadsticks are still warm, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with the garlic salt mixture. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

# Notes:

01 - These homemade Olive Garden-style breadsticks are buttery, garlicky, and ultra-soft - just like the restaurant version!
02 - Make sure your water isn't too hot when activating the yeast - if it's so hot you can't touch it, it will kill the yeast.
03 - If using active dry yeast instead of instant/rapid rise, dissolve it in the water first before proceeding with the recipe.
