Easy Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 8 ounces full-fat brick cream cheese, kept cold
02 - ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened to room temperature
03 - ¼ cup natural strawberry preserves or low-sugar jam
04 - ¼ teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
05 - ⅛ teaspoon salt
06 - 1 drop red food coloring (if desired)
07 - 1½ cups powdered sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Put the cold cream cheese in a large mixing bowl along with 2 tablespoons of the softened butter. Using an electric hand mixer, beat them together, then gradually add the remaining butter 2 tablespoons at a time. Make sure to mix well after each addition until everything becomes smooth and creamy.
02 - Add the strawberry preserves, your choice of extract, salt, and food coloring if you're using it. Beat everything together until well blended.
03 - Stir in the powdered sugar and mix just until everything comes together. Be careful not to overmix at this stage.
04 - You can use the frosting right away, or if it seems too soft for piping, pop it in the fridge for 10 to 20 minutes to firm up a bit.

# Notes:

01 - Keep this frosting stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 7-10 days.
02 - Frosted cakes and cupcakes should be covered and refrigerated, staying fresh for 3-4 days.
03 - Before serving, let your frosted treats sit out at room temperature for at least 30 minutes so they're not too cold.
